THE ANSWERS

Q1 SCIENCE 1 - What is the common name for parotitis, an infection with swelling of the largest pair of

                            salivary glands ?

A1   mumps

Q2 LITERATURE 1 - In Shakespeare`s play "As You Like It", which character delivers the line

"All the world`s a stage and the men and women merely players" ?

A2   Jacques

Q3 MOVIES 1 - In the 1951 comedy movie "The Lavender Hill Mob", what is the name [character`s name

not actress`s name] of characters Holland and Pendlebury`s landlady ?

A3   Miss Evesham.

Two quizzers gave "Mrs Chalk" as the answer, which is incorrect. Mrs Chalk was an elderly resident,

who Pendelbury read to. A review of DVD of the movie incorrectly credited a quote by the landlady

to Pendelbury and Holland as being by Mrs Chalk not by Miss Evesham.

Q4 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE 1 - What, in the Middle Ages, was traditionally measured in ells ?

A4   wool/cloth

Q5 SCIENCE 2 - In geology, what is a caldera ?

A5   depression caused by collapse after eruption of volcano

Q6 LITERATURE 2 - In Agatha Christie`s novel "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe", what is the name of Poirot`s

dentist who was shot after Poirot had visited him ?

A6  Morley

Q7 MOVIES 2 - In the comedy movie "Carry On Up The Jungle", what is the name of the fictious bird

which Prof Tinkle is searching for ?

A7   oozlum

Q8 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE 2 - In printing, what is the term for arranging text aligned with the left or right

                                                      margin, or both margins ?
