Hey guys.
In one of my old forums I was a member of (not existing anymore since this year), we had a thread where everybody just told in short what made them happy this day. Thought it would be nice for here too!
To start: I'm working for EMS and my first call today was am expected birth. So we hoped we would be able to bring her into hospital just in time. But it didn't work. I was at the patient and she just said "it's coming"... My team-mate was driving REALLY fast, it took him about an kilometer to brake - during that time the baby was just born. Even we were a really young team and not long into job, we did VERY well and even the doctors told us we did excellent.
(Our last call was a reanimation on the street, the woman did not get an own circulation again.... But I guess that's the circle of life :D)

Well I'm away to my bed and the window will remain open as I can't sleep without a bit of fresh air, whatever the temperature.
And I know you're right about the bad weather still to arrive @Cleoriff. I just hope it hits Cambridge, if Cambridge is to be hit, after I'm back in London not before 🙏

Knowing my luck, it will come in late March....just when I am starting to herald the coming of Spring!!

I can remember when we were hit in late April, early May.
I had driven to Warwick, to a college of nursing and was meant to be giving a day of lectures and coursework.
It was in a very rural area, Hatton, just outside Warwick itself...
About 3pm the biggest snowstorm started. I wasn't particularly clever driving in snow!
Luckily my husband was in the area as two power lines were down...so he came to where I was and we drove home in convoy. He was behind me and I can remember him flashing his lights to tell me to 'keep my foot off the bloody brakes"

In my younger days I used to play both football and cricket and I well remember matches snowed off when the cricket season starts in April. Yes, matches called off in May too by snow. One of the reasons Spring and summer being my favourite seasons was my love of cricket, even into my late forties. As I sit here now, the sun is shining through the front window and making it difficult to see the screen on the laptop. No heating necessary and it's been a particularly mild November and December and no, unfortunately it won't last. Moods change with the weather so we must enjoy the clement temperatures while we can.

We don't get to learn the skills for driving in snow and ice, or practice them that often.
I remember one year in the very north of Italy one winter, the cars passing us as we walked along the side of the road were throwing up chips of ice - studs in the tyres! 've seen them driving on ice in Sweden too (on the TV), that must be amazing, nobody around you to collide with!
Even in the mid US, where snow falls in November and stays until March, the locals stay home for the first day or two after the first heavy snow, if they can - people need to re-learn their coping skills in the snow, and there's mayhem for a couple of days. Also the people need to clear their own driveways etc, which can take a while if the snwblower hasn't been used since the previous winter... a bit like lawnmowers in the UK, I imagine, a pain to get going in the spring after having stood in the shed or garage all winter!

Yes it is important @ComaChameleon. We only get one life so, if you can enjoy it. You won't get a second chance if you fluff the first.
Though I'm mindful of those who were enjoying life when life dealt them a cruel blow. @jonsie comes to mind, as do you with your recent loss. One has no control over the bad cards we are dealt just hope better ones are dealt in the next hand.
Amen!
I'm looking forward to spring too...It won't be as grey as it is now... It's pulling me down. 😕 Normally I like it as I love fairylights and that stuff. But this year I have nothing decorated..

The place is a dump but the views can be lovely sometimes. totally baffled by the lack of birds(normally there are hundreds) but today there wasn't one! 🤔

Very atmospheric, @Anonymous.
The sudden lack of birdlife is concerning though...
