when I used to make a Christmas cake, the liquid I put in it was brandy, & pricked & turned it regularly during December to be ready for Christmas day teatime, but we were usually still stuffed from Christmas dinner to eat it lolz

I stopped making it on Christmas in Castleton, Rochdale because I just plain forgot to put any liquid in the cake mixture & after it had 'dried out' in the over it was crap, even with pricking like mad with brandy, it went in the bin ... just thinking of all the money I'd spent on the ingredients, well I never made a Christmas cake again

Best cake I ever made was a boiled up cake, in a pan on the stove, Delia Smith's recipe

I buy a good Christmas cake from a good bakery in town, as I like it

Already started my Christmas shopping, to spread the cost & I dislike being shuvved & pushed in December

Ok I'll admit I don't really like drinking alcohol. I've never been drunk ( not that I wanted to be ) even as student when I was probably at my most wild ( I'm terribly conservative)
I do have a sweet tooth so I guess that's why I like some of the cocktails and odd alcohols.
Re Christmas shopping I've a huge stack of stuff in the loft and more on the way. There's loads of online sales @Cleoriff shout if there's anything your looking for in particular as I get loads of emails and notifications. I've helped my friend get a load of cheap Lego, a fantastic Dr Who book and some bargain Superdry clothes.

I used to do it that way too but I found soaking the fruit much less work plus I got rid of the ends of bottles lying round undrunk.
For a couple with one half who hardly drinks the other who shouldn't drink ( sugars to be watched ) and two teenagers one of whom turns her nose up at any alcohol and the other who follows my sweet tooth we have a rather full cabinet of alcohol I really don't know why, maybe I should have a party at mine. Only problem is o2 reception indoors is non existent normally and with a mast issue no service is the order of the day.
