Thought of the day

As part of the #o2surprise that I received last week, there was a jar of smiles. Many were keen to see what would come out of the jar each day, so here are the ones so far!

The one that I picked out on Friday was "If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain".

This morning I picked out "Relax and reflect. A bad day doesn't mean it's a bad life".

My dad Roy, bless him, was junior technician grade in radar during RAF national service

It's also just something which resonates with me ....... very much a child of the moon & stars ....... & we're all reaching for the stars so-to-speak ... ?

Yes we are always reaching for the stars @RunrigForever. Love hearing stories about your dad Roy.

My dad was exempt from National Service due to poor eyesight.

So he worked in one of the many factories in Coventry (when it was the hub of car/ plane/ tractor manufacturers) My Mum worked at the GEC for years.

That was in the days when lads leaving school went into apprenticeships in engineering and the like, rather than doing a "modern apprenticeship" that grades you on making coffee in Starbucks. 🤣

The time my dad worked at those factories was well before apprenticeships @Oxonian 

No HR depts. If you wanted a job, you turned up and had a word with the foreman and if there was work going, they set you on. He was skilled eventually, as a Turner working with lathes making precision tools etc.

@Cleoriff my dad Roy was born late 1920's ....... a scholarship boy to the local grammar school from the boys' secondary modern school ....... he worked from being an apprentice mechanical engineer, ending up as an area supervisor in maintenance at Yorkshire Copper Works (Yorkshire Imperial Metals). All four of my family worked there at some time. The international company liked families. Just one item = if you have old central heating in your home it will probably be from YIM tubes & fittings = microbore & larger diameter piping before that. Similarity with your family @Cleoriff How many people can say these days they began work at a company and finished their working lives at the same company. Yes no HR then. dad studied day release and night school for his engineering certificates and over his years of employment worked in all areas of the metal tube division. Just as proud of my dad as you are of your dad @Cleoriff ... & ... why shouldn't we be. Me - allus a Daddy's Girl ....... my mum Olwen, whom we lost about 3 years ago, is now with dad Roy together both shining stars in the heavens above ... it is comforting to me to think of my mum & dad like that ....... miss them more not less as time goes by.
