Another accident
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/alton-towers-rollercoaster-crash-live-5809187

Now, I'm no prude, I love coasters as much as anyone, but I'm telling you now, that ride is not safe.
It's had numerous failings, bits of track falling off, multiple carriage stops and it didn't even fit together correctly when being constructed.
It's about time this ride was given another safety inspection.

They don't,

Couple of years ago, the "smiler" popped a large bolt out.

They closed it.

That bolt just happened to come from the connection between two track pieces that had to be winched together during construction because they didn't line up.

After the bolt popped (and another slackened) the actual track separated.

Never been a big fan of these type of rides. I get enough thrills and risk factors crossing any road in Bangkok.

It must have been absolutely terrifying for those poor people. Clearly their lives will change dramatically after this. My heart goes out to all of them x

According to news, they were airlifted to Walsgrave hospital in Coventry.
The park is closed today and no doubt this is due to safety inspectors getting access, not due to any sympathetic reasons by Park management.

Let's hope action is taken and they get prosecuted and heavily fined. The bosses should be criminally charged.

And one of the others also has 'severe life changing leg injuries' (these are the two sitting in the front) I bet Alton Towers is just thinking of the compensation... Words fail me Smiley Mad

Well, the towers will remain shut tomorrow, and each day until accident investigators say they can reopen.
Bosses are also considering scrapping the "smiler"
Bout time too.
