Sir Geoffrey Boycott announced today that he has cancer.
Very sad news.
Our Geoffrey, as he was affectionately known as at the very least in his home county of Yorkshire.
Opening batter for Yorkshire County Cricket Club ... & ... many times for his country England.
Traditionally you had to be born in Yorkshire to play for 1st class cricket in Yorkshire.
'Boycs' was also another name Sir Geoffrey was known by.
Sir Ian Botham = former England captain and 'all rounder' named him in his Perfect 11..... because ..... Boycs never gave his wicket away.
Our Geoffrey took his job seriously (my words = humble Tyke to International Outstanding Tyke)
The photo of him was typical Sir Geoffrey in outside Summer cricket pundit mode complete, of course, sporting Panama hat.
Source: the Telegraph ... as ... appeared on my laptop news feed tailored to my interests in our World.
All the Best 'Our Geoffrey'.

All very sad @RunrigForever and @blissgirl ; there is more about it here :-
Sir Geoffrey Boycott reveals cancer diagnosis (telegraph.co.uk)
Of course, Boycott was on the receiving end of the so-called "best over ever" :-
I have often wondered whether the outcome would have been different if Holding had been bowling to a younger version of Boycott ; he was over forty years of age by then and simply could not get off strike.

Thank you @blissgirl for posting the blue link above
@Oxonian ..... the 2 blue links above you kindly posted are interesting ..... didn't know about Boycott being on the end of the perfect over from the bowler Holding.
I do seem to remember a perfect over from the batter's point of view:
Sir Garfield (Gary) Sobers ... from ... the West Indies ....... 6 perfect Sixes - wouldn't remember which cricket ground though.
Similarly ....... 6 perfect Sixes from Sir Ian Botham in one over ....... again - wouldn't know which cricket ground.

Sobers was playing for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan at St Helen's, Swansea in 1968 :-
Six sixes in an over: Sir Garfield Sobers and Malcolm Nash on 50th anniversary - The Cricketer
Interestingly, there was little televised County Championship cricket in the 1960s but Glamoran were the home side so the game was televised by BBC Wales :-

Enjoy. 👍
