Very sad news. He was a legend and will be missed by many. I loved him and watched his many game show incarnations.

It's quite strange that I liked him in the sixties and seventies but less so as I got older. Probably because he was on TV so much and I disapproved when he started to be involved with younger women like Anthea Redfern and his give us a twirl catchphrase.

Fast forward 20 years and I find myself so hypocritical now given my personal situation and lifestyle. expressionless

Anyway he was an absolute legend enjoyed by millions of people and will be sadly missed.

I felt a bit like you Steve....no doubting his legendary status He was in the business for years and a brilliant all round entertainer. Funnily enough it was during his last couple of years on SCD that my admiration faded a bit. He fluffed his lines...His reading from the autocue was poor and his jokes.....well... not funny. However the man gave his life to the business and was a one off....Fully deserved his knighthood...

Unfortunately he went on 10 years too long but he lived for show business. SCD was quite embarrassing in the last two series to be frank and took a little gloss off his public image.

Not knocking him. He was a very talented and versatile man and definitely the best game show host ever. Possibly only Bob Monkhouse came close (another legend).
