RIP Eugene Cernan

'Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, ghas died aged 82.

Captain Cernan was one of only three people to go to the Moon twice and the last man to leave a footprint on the lunar surface in 1972.

The final words he spoke there were: "We leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return with peace and hope for all mankind."

They showed an interview with him this morning. That walk on the moon had a very profound effect on him for a long time.

Heard about this on BBC Radio 4 midnight news ... Eugene did not want to leave the moon ... he drew his little girl's initials in the lunar surface ... Eugene Cernan RIP
