In today's society, anything and everything is classed as 'news'
A 'celeb' is pregnant or getting a divorce and it is front page news.
It annoys me when important stories, such as tragedies, are shoved to the 4th and 5th pages of a newspaper, yet a celeb gorging on a greasy burger and ignoring their diet is regarded as 'breaking news'
There are loads of magazines out there that can print celeb news so why can't that type of news be kept in the magazines and put just the real news in newspapers?

Well I suppose it takes all sorts to make a world as they say. Isn't there a wee poem along the lines of:-
There's a little good in the worst of us
And a little bad in the best of us
So it ill behoves any of us
To criticise the rest of us.
I have to agree that those who for one reason or another do not have the benefit and comfort of a loving and supportive family circle miss out on a lot of the finer things life can provide.
Like the poem @Anonymous
I was raised to talk / interact with people how I would expect to be talked to.
All too often nowadays some people are rude, self serving and hypocritical without thinking (possibly) ,how they comes across.
I wonder if it has to do with the modern education that seems to focus on the "rights" of the individual with little or no mention of any related "responsibilities".

Not a world where people screw each other over at the first opportunity. These days it is all about the money and what people can get whilst giving little in return.
That said, the news tells us broadly about what is bad. But there is so much good in the world that goes unreported. We must focus on that.Agreed.
Unfortunately we're probably in the minority mate !
I think we all agree with those sentiments @Anonymous and @Anonymous - but there are a lot more good people about than we give credit for, and they don't make a song and dance about the ways the help others. But it does make me angry sometimes that those who do cause the greatest hurt and harm get all the publicity and "celebrity" status. More time and effort and money is expended ensuring that their "rights" are protected, than is spent helping their victims, or so it seems.
Yes @Anonymous I believe we all can think of a instance where some have had their identities changed etc to allow them to live their life's , after affecting someone else's.

It's horrible reading stories around the christmas holidays in the 'news' about groups of people in the town centres on their night out and people standing there taking pictures of someone lying on the floor or with injuries or fighting or stripping off to hardly any clothes in cold temperatures or getting themselves in dangerous situations by going off with complete strangers and it's all due to alcohol. Some people go OTT with the amount that they drink and ruin the happy holidays spirit that we should all have. Everyone should have at least one thing to be grateful for
Thank you for that link @Anonymous - unfortunately I have seen many worse stories 😞

Then again all that was surpassed in Devon this week. An 86 year old widower who now lives alone spent £1000 at her local pub laying on a meal for over 40 pensioners she didn't know who otherwise would not have had a Christmas meal or experience.
Now that is a good news story. And for once it made the national press.
Yes - that was a lovely thing to do, wasn't it?

So very true @Anonymous
I was proud to see on a local bus yesterday that was full in terms of seats to see a young girl (about 14) not wait to be asked but got up and offered her seat.
Another chap probably mid 20's also offered his seat immediately to the first pensioners husband. All no questions asked.
Good for them Nick.
Refreshing. 😄

This was a lovely story. I think this pensioner changed lives with this act of kindness. Many of those at the venue were claiming now they had made this step and 'met so many lovely people' they were arranging to meet up again. Very heartwarming

In Liverpool a local councillor arranged for an event for people to attend to for a Christmas dinner if they had nobody else to spend Christmas day with. About 500 people attended it, including volunteers who took time out of their day to help others. I didn't go to it but I read about it and I think it was a lovely thing to be arranged.

A heart warming news item @gemz4the1 - well done Liverpool!! Isn't it amazing though at a time in history when worldwide communications have never been so easy and relatively inexpensive that communications between neighbours have never been so poor?
