That sounds a little scary.
Just wondered as it would be a way to a) avoid the huge costs associated with "new" drugs, and b) potentially provide a separate revenue stream into the NHS.
It would need to be set up as a new entity, and report into the NHS in some fashion so that it could look into the most appropriate/most needed/most urgent areas.

Just a thought...

quite possibly. although it would only be after some other heads were banged together or against walls!!
one thing that does annoy me is the stories in the press of trust managers getting exorbitant salaries, particularly more so when the trusts are not running to budget. why do they get so much when the "business" they are running is losing so much money? it would be harder to find candidates, but surely a better way is to pay a reasonable wage and the rest is subject to the trust meeting it's targets both in terms of budget/costs and patient care.
but again, what do i know...

I have been in senior management in the NHS @gmarkj and got a damn good salary. That aside, I agree that Trust managers and directors salaries are often obscene. However...isn't this the same in every other industry? I certainly wasn't going to refuse the salary given. My family would say for the hours I worked and my on call hours....(even when off duty or on holiday) then I deserved double the amount. It took a long time for the 'powers that be' to recognise that nursing staff were something more than 'handmaidens to the gods'

Hey...we actually had brains and made damn good managers....(and often were better qualified than the male consultants who made it to the board of directors...)

Good God Cleo in soapbox mode.....again!!!. Going to shut up now.....got windows to clean and washing to hang out....LOL

Not disputing that those with skills/experience should be rewarded, or even not paid well if they are doing a job.
The ones that wind me up are the ones like this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/02/nhs-chief-on-record-60000-a-month-as-numbers-off-payroll-...

What possible reason could be given that he deserves this salary? If that were per year, then ok. But monthyl?!?

Same thing happened at our Trust and it's bloody sickening. I was Head of Unit (for education and development )...they moved in an Executive Director (as his previous job disappeared) He went 'off sick' after 2 months......continued paying him a massive salary for a year...THEN they gave him a extremely large payout when his year was up...He did nothing at all ...Added nothing to the unit....

Those are the ones that need to be weeded out, and quickly.
If you are a specialist, or head of dept then fair enough you should get a decent salary.
If you are a pencil pusher, you should not be getting such an amount in a public sector job.
As I said before, if you can run the trust to provide the care at the standard expected and within budget then fair enough a bonus should be due. But salaries like that are outrageous and sickening and doing nothing to help reduce the cost of running the NHS.
