My favourite childhood Easter memory 🐣

 Day before Easter 🐣 

Getting a cloth to cover the dining room table and feeling excited for all the lovely things to come on Easter day, everyone helped in getting the water colours ready assembled with paint brushes to paint funny faces on the dark brown chicken eggs.  Fingers trying to hold the delicate egg whilst turning it round and round.  Little fingers changing colour all the time. Then mother would gather them into an egg dish for tomorrow breakfast. 

 

  Easter day 

Everyone up early to see the table very pretty and fully laid for breakfast. Intriguing boxes full of large chocolate eggs and boiled eggs with soldiers 

 

 After breakfast everyone opened the chocolate egg boxes and enjoyed crushing and breaking with a snap those hollow eggs.

 After this excitement we girls had special presents of pretty Easter bonnets. 

Trying them on excitedly and dancing about in them -  then

Dad would gather us all with the dog for a walk in the nearby Bluebell wood

 Not forgetting to take our chocolate off we would go.

    Playing tag and losing our bonnets quite often after a long walk we'd be ready to go home, bonnets a little worse for wear. 

     Such a happy day with all the family, an ordinary day made special by kind and loving thoughts ❤️

The one of the bigger bluebell woods close to here also has wild onions growing - an interesting mix of scents!  Also very popular this time of the year, and National Trust to boot. 

I remember Figolli, decorated shapes made of a pastry outer with a sweet marzipan filling, in all sorts of shapes and colours - and with those 100's&1000's and those hard shiny silver or gold ball-bearings  of sugar, guaranteed to break a tooth!

What a lovely memory @TallTrees. We only ever painted eggs at school and we had to bring them in hard boiled. Mum would let me have 4 as dad, who worked nights, could take them after they were made into sandwiches. 

We lived in a very built up area in Coventry so there were no parks or woods nearby. 

I do remember a few Easter parades at school and only the girls could be entered into an Easter bonnet parade. Mum was very artistic and made me lovely bonnets. The winner was awarded an Easter egg. 

However, I was a real tomboy and although I relished winning an Easter egg, the hat would probably end up in the canal on the way home 😂

As a child, it seemed to bring the most joy counting how many chocolate eggs we got and how fast we could eat them. 

Always lamb for Sunday lunch. Most enjoyable.

Actually I am a big fan of marzipan.

When shopping in Lidl (I don't know whether they are in N.I.?)

they have a Stollen with marzipan, this is nice.

Stollen is very nice, more commonly associated with Christmas than Easter though.

And yes, Lidl is here in NI.

Niederegger in Luebeck is one of the more famous German marzipan confectioners - lovely, and nowhere near as sweet as that used in Figolli. And coated in dark chocolate, Mmmm!

Wonder if Lidl have it 🤔 

I'll look out for it as often it can be missed.

I really want 

Niederegger ... marzipan covered in thin layer of chocolate. Shown by @pgn in photo sounds fab.

 I'm going to lidl tomorrow and look.
