Me too, @Anonymous - bread used to be sold from the back of a van early in the morning when I was young, I've always loved different types of bread!

The smell of bread cooking ... Mmmm ... lovely to hear your memory @pgn ... I've not heard of that before ... there was a bakery in the village where I grew up ... & ... if I'd saved up my threepence a day I'd call in there after school for a nice bun ... & ... the smell was wonderful ... & ... I'd dawdle on the way home savouring it slight_smile

Both my grandma's - Hilda & Dorothy were good homemade cooks ... & ... they both baked lovely things ... Gran Hilda cooked on a coal range & made toast in front of the coal fire on a proper toasting fork, tasted wonderful with real butter on slight_smile

My father-in-law was a bread man for the Ormo bakery. Drove an electric van round the town every day. Knew his regular's orders and the extras they had at special times. My wife used to help out at Christmas when everyone bought twice as much.

Another lovely memory @Fellwalker

I do remember a bakery called Freemans in the village where I grew up & they wrapped their loaves in tissue paper for you

@Cleoriff you made me almost spit my morning coffee on the laptop!

I'm loving this topic and it makes me super hungry for some eggs and freshly-baked bread. grin
