I think the problem with this was the same as the 50th special, it had too many running story lines which never exactly run in paralllel. The dinosaur part was unnecessary if you ask me.
In some respects, it was a showcasing of special FX - kind of like the Transformer films expect with a story line. Peter Capaldi did a good job of creating his own unique performance as he had a different presence from Matt Smith's or David Tennant's version. Like Chris Ecclestone brought his own version after the long break of the series.
As for Clara, her character is never quite explained, although it might just be like River Song where you see her death before she does.
There was some comedic moments where Strax takes out Clara with the newspaper. And when he tells the workers to clean the coach right or he'll boil them acid.
It's too early to say however this show will continue although as long as the script writing is good, Capaldi should pull off a good act in my opinion.
