The 02 Community is renown for its members offering help and for caring.

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that, thanks to the support of members of this Community, an adoption has been set up with the Born Free Foundation for what is known as the Elephant Family.

The Born Free Adoption Certificate will be in the name of the "02 Community".

It has been decided that one of these elephants should be named HOPE.

The adoption pack, with the adoption certifciate and photos of these beautiful creatures, should be received within the next few days and will be posted on this thread.

In the meantime, here is a short video of these beautiful elephants and the Born Free Foundation:

Today - 12 AUGUST - is WORLD ELEPHANT DAY read more

With travel restrictions due to Covid-19 there has been few reports on the elephants in Amboseli, where Hope - our adopted elephant - is.

However, The Star in Rift Valley, Kenya recently reported that Cynthia Moss, director of the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, said

“So far in 2020, 138 new [elephant] calves have been recorded and we are expecting even more [in Amboseli]”

Dedicated rangers and helpers who are putting themselves on the frontline, despite Covid-19, to help and protect the elephants in Amboseli.

Covid 19 has had a severe impact on African Wildlife according to WWF.

The lack of rangers has given poachers an absolute free for all.

Good for Amboseli and other conservations sites for doing the absolute best they can.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, there hasn`t been much to report on the elephants in Amboselli, where our Hope is.

But there is good news.

It has been some time since there was any news to post about Hope or the plight of the elephants.

Today, Wed 12 May 2021, the UK Government has published its Action Plan For Animals

Launching the plan, George Eustice, the Environment Secretary, said

"We will lead on the protection of animals abroad by implementing the world’s toughest ivory ban and banning the import of hunting trophies to protect iconic species. As an independent nation we are now able to go further than ever to build on our excellent track record.

The Action Plan For Animals read here states

  • We are implementing the Ivory Act this year to ban dealing in elephant ivory, and we plan to consult on extending the Ivory Act to other species later this year.

  • We will deliver on our 2019 Manifesto Commitment to ban the import of hunting trophies from endangered animals abroad, by bringing forward legislation to ensure UK imports and exports of hunting trophies are not threatening the conservation status of species abroad.
