Just a reminder to any and all interested. Dancing On Ice starts tomorrow on ITV at 18:00.

Personally am really looking forward to it, particularly as Torville and Dean are now on the judging panel.

One good thing. Chris and Jayne are coaching AND skating next week so that will be worth a watch.

To add some reality about the high overmarking marking tonight, you only needed to watch the two professional skaters who got silver in the Winter Olympics.

So if they got silver, does that mean Jake would have got gold?? I don't think so.

No doubt who is going to win but try as hard as he might he will never ever be as good as Ray Quinn.

Watch this Flamenco. Now that's a perfomance worth 4 10's

I was in Thailand for the series that year, but to be honest I wouldn't have watched it all even back here. It's not that I disliked it that much, it was the fact that I'd had to watch it with my wife and watching it without her would have been too painful.

Watching it now, even though I feel a traitor to her memory, I have to say that Ray Quinn  would have knocked spots off any of those in this year's competition. I can't speak about the last three years because I never watched those series.

Has anybody even come close to him since 2014 @Cleoriff?

No one has come close @jonsie. In one of his routines he did the split jump. Robin Cousind was judge at the time and he was reknowned for that in his routines. He said Ray Quinn was as good if not better than him.

I think it's testament to Ray that he is appearing in this years DOI show. I would lay a bet that people are going just to see him and Torville and Dean.

The best female celeb was Hayley Tarmeddon (from Emmerdale) Watch her version of Jai Ho

(This was when the highest mark was 6.0)

And purely because I am feeling nostalgic  here is the performance when Ray did the split jump...

(He did another one in a different routine but this was the first.)

Note the marks. 5 judges, best mark was 6.0 and he only got one 6 and the rest were 5.5 ...

Ridiculous.

These videos certainly highlight the differences with this year's contest which is more akin to ITV spamming us with adverts for which they get paid obscene amounts of money because it's a popular TV show.

I bet the viewing figures are way down on the Quinn years.....

As I've said, I can't dance or iceskate to any standard that would have been approved by any of my wives who both did/do outstandingly well and we're a joy to watch.

That doesn't mean I can't appreciate good performances or spot tumbles and flaws by the celebrities this year and as you've said, the marking has been a joke. I've no idea where the judges plucked them from because by my standards they were vastly over rating the performances. Those 10 were way beyond my understanding of what's good or indifferent.

Nice to see that Philip Schofield is still getting the money rolling in....way past time for a new presenter who won't fawn over B celebrities quite so much.

Absolutely brilliant and no Jake is no Ray Quinn. But Ray is quite unique and there's not been anyone since to match him.

@jonsieYou mention the viewing figures. It started in 2006, it's viewing figures ranged between 9 million to 13 million (for the final) Each year pretty much exceeded 10 million

This new series started with 7 million viewers and has subsequently dropped to 5 million..

Says it all really...

Somehow I missed the Quinn era but yes, what I've seen he's one of the best. Sunday's Silver medallists demo were incredibly smooth and gliding across the ice and then you contrast with the celeb carthorses who have appeared on the show collecting an appearance fee.

One more week and then we need to find something else on TV as a long running thread...

So we know the 3 finalists will skate the iconic Bolero.

I don't want to put them off ....so being spiteful I will just post Ray Quinns winning performance

Beat that....Dance
