Hi guys.
It's been a while since we had a movie thread and as it's the beginning of the year, I thought I'd provide a run down of some of great-sounding films out this year.
So here goes!
1). Lincoln - dir Steven Speilberg
Starring the formidable Daniel Day-Lewis as well Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and many other famous faces, this looks to be a very in depth look at the legendary president's later life, with a particular focus on the abolition of the slave trade.
I cannot wait
Release: January 25th
2). Side by Side - dir Christopher Kenneally
A documentary in which Neo himself, Keannu Reaves interviews a huge range of film-makers about cinema on how it is changing due to technological advancements such as digital film-making, 48fps and 3D. Guests include James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Stephen Soderberg and David Fincher.
Release: February 15
3). Carrie - dir Kimberly Pierce
This remake that has had a long gestation period (perhaps due to the difficulty of casting such an iconic role) and it will be very interesting to see how it is handled. Carrie herself is played by Chloe Grace-Moretz (Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass, watch it if you have not!) and her mother is played by Julianne Moore.
Release: April 5
4). The Great Gatsby - dir Baz Luhrman
From the director of Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, this follows a 1920s group of glamorous so-and-so's getting involved in a dramatic and emotional labour of love. Based on a famous novel and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan.
Release: May 17th
5). Rush - dir Ron Howard
The great Ron Howard of Apollo 13, Cinderella Man and A Beautiful Mind fame (Oh, and Happy Days!) directs this great sounding film depicting an intense rivalry between two race drivers in the 1976 Grand Prix; Nicki Lauda and James Hunt. Ron Howard is one my favourite directors and this should be a great film. Starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Daniel Bruhl and Olivia Wilde.
Release: September 13

All of the first post don't sound too exciting to go to the cinema for. One for the DVD or more like the TV in few years though the F1 will probably be good. Star Trek is one I'll be going to.
Wreck-it-Ralph is another one looking very good. Especially if you've grown up around video games. Lots of things to spot in there!
