Having great fun today and all other jobs and duties delayed until further notice!

My new Chromecast device has arrived along with the installation of Virginmedia broadband (speeds around 100 MbSmiley Very Happy) I could be otherwise engaged for quite some time Dance

It seems strange streaming photos, videos and your laptop onto a 40 inch TV....

@jonsie what can be streamed to.chromecast? Does it have to be Web paged content or can it do throw to items such as movies stored on sd card?

You can stream from apps such as youtube, bbc iplayer, netflix, goole play music and google+ etc as well as web based stuff. I've not discovered it's full potential as yet but haven't found a way to stream from sd card movies and photos. Early days yet though.

@Anonymous do you think to Chromecast @jonsie. Would it be considered as a possible replacement for Sky when my 75% discount expires? ??

I don't think it will ever replace Sky but there will hopefully be more apps developed to utilise it. I'm having to change from Firefox to Chrome as my preferred browser too.

I'm still learning....slowly as I've had much to do today!

I've just kicked Sky out and so again, finding my way around that too!

My Sky discount ends mid October and I can't see them giving 75% again so I will be off. Much of what I watch apart from football is available online anyway and with 75mb broadband might as well use it.

You got tivo @jonsie? I find it much better than what I had with sky,
Takes some getting used to but amazing once I figured it all out.
Will give you one very good bit of advice if you do have tivo, fully turn it off and on once every two weeks, after a couple of weeks it gets very laggy and the on/off clears it up.

Makes perfect sense. I've been with Sky for 28 years with no problems apart from numerous routers over the years and the occasional Sky box replacement but they wouldn't give me the discount I thought I deserved after the thousands of pounds spent with them.

Seeing as I'm out of the country for six months a year it made sense to go for a cheaper option with half price introductory offer and 100Mb broadband. Only downside is an 18 month contract but after that I may just see who is offering what. Loyalty just doesn't work these days, all the offers are for new customers.

Great tip @viridis I have noticed the sound sometimes disappears but thought it was ust me getting the hang of things. It is more complicated than the Sky+ box but there seems to be far more options with it.

Just need to stop it randomly recording all sorts of stuff that I am sure I haven't programmed LOL

The first time it went laggy on me I rang the tech support and he gave the I.T crowd line "have you turned it off and on again" and I swore he was taking the mick.
As it turned out that is the actual fix.

Maybe when I have used it a couple of weeks and discovered it's potential I can review it properly.

However, today I need to go out and purchase a new Recliner chair in order to lie back and enjoy my life of laziness leisure. Wonder if I can find a cheap one with built in remote, massager and beer cooler?Happy Dance
