I don't mind...now they are calling it after Sir David Attenborough.
A very good choice.

While I wholeheartedly agree with the alternative name, this is simply what you should expect from online voting in this day and age. They should have kept the voted name in my personal view :D.

The only thing that swayed me away from Boaty McBoatface (more than brilliant by the way) was the fact they named it after an absolute gem of a man. He is 90 on May 8th and has said "Retire? I'll never tire of the natural world" A fitting tribute to him I think...

Common sense prevails but the stupidity of people going along with this suggestion in the first place seems to be indicitive of people these days who really shouldn't have online access.

You both make very fair points
It sounds like the boat will be going on some really interesting expeditions!

Apparently the sub-vessel on board the vessel will be called Boaty McBoatface though so the name will live on in some element
Yes ..I noticed that when I read all of the article. I suppose if you put something to the public vote you can't just dismiss the most popular choice....
"While the ship will not be named Boaty McBoatface, one of the remotely operated sub-sea vehicles will be named Boaty in recognition of the vote."
These were the top four votes...
