iPhone tethering: Greedy O2...

Anonymous

So you think it's a good idea to charge your customers extra to tether an iPhone to their laptop?

I think any customer with sense would rather just jailbreak their phone than pay an extra £15/month for a service they are already paying for...

Any reason for this outragous charging scheme, or is it just for the hell of it?? Worth a try??

Have you been living in a cave recently and not noticed that the general public aren't that happy with greed (see recent MP expenses scandals)?

You may not use your SIM Card:
* in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
If you dont have an iphone then its not your issue. You dont pay the iphone contract, you didnt have to pay the phone like other iphone users.

How rude, as this is a public forum the previous poster was just expressing an opinion which he is entiled to, O2 are not ripping you off you pay them a monthly subscription which inclueds free minute and texts, they also give unlimited data for the hand set.

Now here's the part you don't seem to understand, the minute you connect the phone to a computer it becomes a modem, if you want to use it as such O2 have a bolt on. All other handset users have to pay for the privilage so wheres your problem, get over yourself. If you dont like O2's policies then leave after all you did sign a conract agreeing their T&Cs

When the tethering was announced I was quite excited until I saw t he charges they impose. I don't think o2 understand what unlimited actually means. For those who don't know, it means as much internet as you want using your iPhone. So why o2 want to charge extra for using THE PHONES internet just on a laptop is unclear to me - apart from they are greedy which we all know is true judging from todays episode.

Because the free internet is to use ON THE PHONE not ON YOUR LAPTOP USING THE PHONE AS A MODEM.

Which may i add is clearly stated in the T&C's but hey, nobody reads them right, well tough, get over it.

Nobody is disputing that! And the fact that tethering can't be activated unless 02 enable it on your account (unless you do a few hacks or jailbreak) means all those posts where people are saying light usage will be permitted were talking rubbish.

The fact of the matter is 02, COULD, if they wish changes the T&C's and give people light usage FOC without it severally affecting their revenue stream, whilst at the same time showing a little bit kindness to there CUSTOMERS!!!

As a friend of mine pointed out, its twice as easy to get repeat business than it is to get new business, but four times as easy to lose current customers!

All you whiners are just plain missing the point, unlimited on the phone you pay for it and you get it.

Connect to a computer phone becomes a modem YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR THAT, who gives a #### about light of heavy usage, thats the way it works and contracts were signed with those clauses included so just get over it. There are more important things in the world to worry about.

As I have said before here: Please tell me what is the difference in the resources and energy 02 use betweendata sent via the iphone and data sent to/form the laptop to/from the iphone to/from the network?

Most sites that I visit on safari on my iphone do not have specific mobiles sites - to be fair though I don't see the flash intros on my phone obviously!

Ok here it is in plain english, tethering is an additional service, its extra,

If you dont like it go to a different service provider or just accept O2 will make a charge.

Sorry, but just because isn't a rational argument, unless of course you believe that the earth is flat and the UK and US governments had legitimate reasons to blow up Iraq!

IT IS THIS SIMPLE

If you want to use your mobile as a modem you will need to pay for it, a mobile is a mobile, it is not a modem.

If you don't want to use your phone that way - you don't have to pay for it.

NOW, THAT WASNT COMPLICATED WAS IT?

Sorry for shouting but I am getting very frustrated with this argument.

A previous poster was right - lets have a little respect for other peoples opinions - you may not agree with the views, but they have every right to air them.

OK last post on the subject. I have respect for others opinions, I just believe there is more to an discussion than you can't. can't is a very strong word and is usually used by someone who has a vested interest in preserving the status quo.

"Just because it is in the T&C" is not a sufficient argument. Give me a real justification for O2 charging more for occasional usage and I'll shut up - what is telling is that no one has come up with the argument, least of all anyone from 02.

Just a thought...
Pay as you go iphone customers are given 12 months unlimited data allowance right??
So surly they could perform the free tether hack without the fear of being unfairly billed. The worst that could happen is they would be disconnected.
