The O2 USB dongle has to be the most laughable piece of **** I have ever come across. Well, I say laughable, but that’s far from the truth. There have been a few times when I’ve been that frustrated that I’ve felt like putting my fist through the wall. I’m even typing this in Microsoft Word now so that I can try to cut and past it into the forum when I eventually get online. Why? Because, despite the connection manager indication that O2 signal strength is ‘excellent’ it won’t even connect and times out with that annoying bloody chime that you get when it tells you the connection failed. It only really becomes annoying after you’ve heard it about 6 times in a row. And on last count of trying to connect THIS TIME, I have heard it 17 times in a row… despite an EXCELLENT connection. Wouldn’t mind if it said ‘poor’ signal or something. But how in the hell can it time out with an ‘excellent’ signal?? And it’s not my computer, it’s 100% this useless piece of trash.
And when you *do* get connected the things is slower that 56k used to be about 12-14 years ago.
What I also find totally misleading and laughable is that they advertise that for £15 a month you get 3GB of downloads (or whatever insane amount they’ve quoted) within that month. I’d like to hear from anyone who has managed to download 3GB of stuff in a year on this thing. And they have the cheek to use the insane amounts of tracks or movies that you can download. I’m a music journalist and last week had to download a zipped album for review from a label’s media section. 54.7kb, it was. Know how long that took using this piece of crap? Nearly FIVE ******** hours!!!!!!! I decided to test it out later that day on a reliable connection and the same zip file was downloaded in 6 minutes!! Streaming? Youtube? Myspace songs? Forget about it! As for them saying you can download movies…. I’m going to check this out with advertising standards because I’d say you’d never get a movie downloaded in a month with this. I think they say you can do up to 11 of them or something. I may be wrong but I can’t be bothered to check at the minute.
O2 dongle is a complete waste of time, money and patience. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
