Come on tech guys, improve the network. Vodafone can get 2.2mbs why can't O2!

Because O2 is a bigger network, has more people on it, and it pretty much is the 'iPhone' network, as iPhone use the biggest share on O2 more than any other company.
Also it might be where you live.

Well I'm in London, Chingford to be exact which is quoted as a high coverage area and last night I tested my 3G speed. I was only getting 54kbps maximum and this is with a full 3g signal. Definitely not good enough!

Especially as my mate who is with Vodaphone keeps rubbing my nose in it as he always gets a full 3G signal with decent speeds 😞

O2 must have done something in my area in the last couple of days because I could only ever get G (54Kbps) in the house with 2 bars. Now I get H with a full signal and the data speeds are great, round about 2.2Mbps.

The O2 USB dongle has to be the most laughable piece of **** I have ever come across. Well, I say laughable, but that’s far from the truth. There have been a few times when I’ve been that frustrated that I’ve felt like putting my fist through the wall. I’m even typing this in Microsoft Word now so that I can try to cut and past it into the forum when I eventually get online. Why? Because, despite the connection manager indication that O2 signal strength is ‘excellent’ it won’t even connect and times out with that annoying bloody chime that you get when it tells you the connection failed. It only really becomes annoying after you’ve heard it about 6 times in a row. And on last count of trying to connect THIS TIME, I have heard it 17 times in a row… despite an EXCELLENT connection. Wouldn’t mind if it said ‘poor’ signal or something. But how in the hell can it time out with an ‘excellent’ signal?? And it’s not my computer, it’s 100% this useless piece of trash.

And when you *do* get connected the things is slower that 56k used to be about 12-14 years ago.

What I also find totally misleading and laughable is that they advertise that for £15 a month you get 3GB of downloads (or whatever insane amount they’ve quoted) within that month. I’d like to hear from anyone who has managed to download 3GB of stuff in a year on this thing. And they have the cheek to use the insane amounts of tracks or movies that you can download. I’m a music journalist and last week had to download a zipped album for review from a label’s media section. 54.7kb, it was. Know how long that took using this piece of crap? Nearly FIVE ******** hours!!!!!!! I decided to test it out later that day on a reliable connection and the same zip file was downloaded in 6 minutes!! Streaming? Youtube? Myspace songs? Forget about it! As for them saying you can download movies…. I’m going to check this out with advertising standards because I’d say you’d never get a movie downloaded in a month with this. I think they say you can do up to 11 of them or something. I may be wrong but I can’t be bothered to check at the minute.

O2 dongle is a complete waste of time, money and patience. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

My 3G speeds have dropped HORRENDOUSLY in the last week. I got my iPhone 4 on launch day and with 5 bars i was quite impressed last week, managing 2-3mbits down and 1.5mbits up (huge increase in upload speed over the iPhone 3G).

During this past week, around tuesday, 3G speeds have nose dived to about 30-40kbits down and 25-30kbits up. (tested in the exact same location as before)

Couple this with Apple's stance that there is nothing wrong with the antenna design of the 4 and they will release a software "fix" that basically lowers the amount of bars displayed on the phone, I am not very happy with the prospect of spending around £1000 over the next 2 years for GPRS speeds and phone that will not make calls or transfer data if i hold it in my hand....

i've had extremely slow 3G data yesterday and today. maximum 56kb download speed.
at first, i thought it could be my iPhone4 after all the talk of reception issues.

rang o2 last night and was put through to one of their offshore team, who didnt seem to know what he was talking about. But he did say there was a problem.

Just phoned up again and was told there is still a problem with data speeds. no timescale when this will be restored.

annoying!
