I've been on holiday in Hungary and I have sent some texts home, and to other countries in Europe. O2 kindly sends me a text when I use a lot of data, but the text says 'you have spent £X on data outside Europe'. I have neither been outside Europe nor sent any messages outside Europe. They should correct this mistake.

@leonard this is a system issue as Hungary is included in the eu rates
This cannot be a billing issue.
The only time this could happen if you were close to a non eu country and accidentally roamed to that network. (i.e like o2-uk going to o2-ie on the irish borders)

@leonard, thanks but adamtemp64 is right. My comment was a criticism of the content of the message sent by O2. Sorry if that was not clear.
They should change this message to 'outside the UK'.

@tc102 where in hungary were you to eliminate the cross border issue.
The sms should say in eu in your case and the message you got when in non eu countries like usa as ther are charged at 2 different rates.
What charges show on your bill?

Thanks -- I was in western Hungary, near the Austrian border. The nearest other countries were Slovenia and Slovakia. So the border issue should not be a problem (though I will check my bill, thanks for that advice).
So the SMS should not say 'EU' in my case since all these countries are in the EU.
The text in the SMS is a simple error but there is no way of reporting this to O2 online and I'm not going to waste time being put on hold. So I hope that someone on this forum works for O2 and they can correct it.

the sms should have not said out side europe but data used in Europe or similar. But all the countries you list are covered by o2 travel and eu rates. http://www.o2.co.uk/international/o2-travel/pay-monthly
Data non eu £6 a mb and data in eu is 69p a mb unless you are on o2 travel when you pay £1.99 for 25 mb a day.
Leonard works for o2 so should pass on to relevant department.

@leonard this needs urgent attention as different caps ie data usage applies outside of the eu based on op comments.

maybe they need to re look at their charges & when you enter a country every time you enter you should be able to get a text with the charges. but actually mke it clear what the charges are & how much with a little more detail as the text are pretty vague
