Upgrade Day at O2

Great it's Upgrade Day ..received telephone call from "O2 Upgrade Department" ( 0208 number) informing me that I am due upgrade today and in turn told them I was interested in an iPhone 5.

 

A tariff was quoted, which although only available on 24 months, it wasn't unreasonable at £41 per month with 2gb data.

 

 I then asked what what happens when O2 introduce 4G, will 4G be available to me?

SILENCE.

The operator again asks if I am interested in taking the upgrade offered. 

I re-phase the question and mentioned I have read something about a 'price promise' from O2 regarding transfer to 4G next year.

The operator asks me to hold whilst he talks to Manager. 

He returns to the line and asks if I am interested in a better deal with iphone 5 at £39 per month with 100mb...

Arrggghhh goes my brain.....

I ask if I am talking to a robot. I also ask if he is really phoning from the "O2 Upgrade Department" as declared in his opening, as he seems to be unaware of what products his company are selling or offering.

He then informs me he is calling from Carphone Warehouse.

I inform the operator that my contract is direct with O2, so confused as to why CW are calling me.

Operator asks me to hold and he will get Manager.

Manager comes on line and confirms they are CW and run the Upgrade Department on behalf of O2. I repeat my questions regarding the price promise and 4G contract.

He responds my informing me that... 'if O2 have promised you a price, then no doubt they will stand by it.'

I chose to ignore this very stupid reply and inform him that I am under the impression O2 will be introducing 4G network next Spring and  that the current iPhone 5 that O2 are offering cannot be used on 4G and that this phone will have to be changed for another iPhone 5 which enabled for 4G. 

He informs me that there is no information regarding O2 offering 4G and it will be long time coming. He also informs me that all iPhone 5's are compatible with 4G, so the phone I am being offered will work on the 4G network

 

I put phone down.

 

Having been with O2 for the past 3 years, I am now seeking other providers for this phone. I suggest O2 do something about CW telling blatant lies in order to get contracts renewed/sales. I had the distinct feeling this call emanated from an overseas call centre.

I'm not too convinced that O2s fast track 4g will apply to phones brought through CPW 😞

You made the right decision.

I sincerely hope O2 are not outsourcing everything to CPW. Largest gathering of cowboys I've had the displeasure of doing business with. Truly upset that my iPhone 5 contract is through them despite ordering from o2s website:(

Sort it out O2 please ill even pay to become your customer again over CPW!

You've got to remember a lot of these people are 'trained idiots' and not using common sense most of the time. The EE shop near me, said although they can't offer 4G at the moment you can still use a 3G SIM until such times the service becomes available. Which kind of defeats the purpose really.

Thanks comments and to show that I am a man of my word....

 

Spoke to a very pleasant girl at Vodafone today, who obviously based in UK and they have offered me iPhone 5 at £37 per month on same deal of 24 mos with unlimited text/calls and 2GB data, but payment of phone at £82 instead of £50 with O2.

 

With O2 at £41 per month that's £1034 over the 24 months as opposed to £970 with Vodafone.

 

To switch to 4G with Vodafone, they want you to pay 30 pct of exisiting contract and hand in your exisiting iphone 5 , which to be in good working order. Sounds a better deal that O2's offer of 10 percent (plus VAT) contribution to your exisitng contract and a 'trade in' of your 3G iPhone 5.

 

Goodbye O2....Carphone Warehouse have just lost you a customer of 3.1/2 years. I am sure I am not the last..
