Three week old galaxy s7 screen has just gone blank, no response, nothing works. Very disappointing for new phone with so much hype.

Hi @Anonymous Welcome to the forum
Have you tried pressing down the power button and the volume down button around the same time, and hold both down for 7-8 seconds. Push, hold, and wait. The phone will vibrate, turn off, and reboot. Any problems it was experiencing will likely be gone, and everything should be fine..
If you continue having problems of this type then contact Samsung directly http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/

If that doesn't work you could send it to Samsung for repair. Don't use o2 repairs as they don't have a great reputation

If it doesn't work it needs to go in for repair - I assume it is fully charged?

If it's three weeks old, I assume it's liable for replacement. If the reboot methods don't work, of course.
Amazing how much info is out there about this problem with the S7....when I looked I had no idea it would be such a 'common' thing for a newly released phone. Of course it has a non removable battery (something that a lot of folk were also moaning about) ....

I have the S7 Edge and mine did this the other day, also brand new!
Powering down or using the vol down and power didn't work and it had 100% battery.
It rings when for people when they phone but not for me, no notification lights etc..
I spoke to a guru online and they are happily doing a door swap for me, it's a common issue atm with the S7, I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say it's likely a first batch problem, as they tend to be the ones with all the issues, hope you get it sorted
