Poor O2 Durban call centre

Anonymous
Not applicable

Til recently if i called 4445 with a query/problem I got knowledgable UK call centre operatives. In the last 2 days twice I've had Durban call centre staff in South Africa who couldn't answer pretty basic questions about my contract switching over to SIM only imminently when my existing contract ends. In answer to one quite specific question they said 'I would think so....' - not the answer I'm looking for.  Black mark O2.

If you get through to an outsourced call centre then ask them to transfer you through to a UK call centre. They will do it for you if you aren't happy with their advice.

Hi

It can be frustrating when things are lost in translation with language barriers.

If convenient you could carry this out in your most local O2 HighStreet store.

The first language in South Africa is English.....Rolleys

Having South African relatives I find this quite offensive

Not my intention I assure you.

I work with a guy from South Africa who I've consulted about such things and he agreed things can get confused sometimes.

The topic of things sometimes being lost in translation with live chat and over seas call centres has been raised previously.

On the two previous occasions I have spoken to the South Africa call centre without a problem.

English is good, invariably with an accent but I wouldn't denounce that in the same way none of  us would have a problem speaking to people from Ireland , Scotland, England and Wales.

It's the written word, translated it seems from Google where problems occur.

I too have spoken with South African call centres and had no problem in understanding - It's hardly a foreign language and English is the first.
My German, French, Czech, Scandinavian etc colleagues are also equally as intelligible when speaking, but as jonsie says, the written word can sometimes take some deciphering slight_smile
