O2 mobile fails to connect at London Underground stations using VM WiFi

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've asked at three local London O2 outlets why my mobile no longer connects to Virgin Media WiFi at the tube stations and no one has a clue. It used to connect but now won't.

I'm on PAYG and I've topped up very recently. My friend has the same issue, so its not just me then.

see http://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/wifi-london-underground

Yes O2 WiFi is installed and my mobile is registered to use it.

Anyone else have this problem?

Try with a different browser to see if that is the case or not.

So the issue would not appear to be with chrome and authentication issues then.

I've had this issue on and off for about 2 years if not more now. I even posted here last year and I was given the same link as earlier in this thread and it didn't work for me, then randomly, months later around Christmas, it suddenly started working again, only to stop working again for no apparent reason around April this year.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one as they suggested I was and that the issue came from my device. As a matter of fact I recently had that problem with another brand new device and different o2 payg number, but I didn't worry much about it at the time because it was a temporary phone.

I spent just under and hour and half on the phone with customer service and one of the 'gurus' last night and no one ever seems to know what's going on and no one takes responsibility either.

Firstly, they ask you to go to a London Underground station to be into the wifi coverage zone, BUT you also have to be able to make a call to customer service at the same time, which obviously is a bit difficult to get both at the same time.

Then they ask you to re-register to o2 wifi, which obviously you can't do when you're not in an o2 hotspot. But obviously, I have previously registered to o2 wifi, and had it re-set, and re-registered. About one billion times. I checked again today and I'm definitely registered.
I was also informed by the 'guru' that I'm not registered to 'Wifi extra' but what I don't understand is that looking at all the o2 pages, it's not something I need to register to manually. I was told when trying to log in to that, I have to use the same password as the one I set up when registering to o2 wifi, but am I being stupid or there's no password to enter when registering to o2 wifi??

I just find it appalling that no one at o2 seems to know what they're talking about!

Its not unusual to find CS have no idea what they are talking about at all tbh.
As far as wifi extra is concerned, you can't actually "sign up" for it as it is device and sim dependent (I'm not even sure PAYG can access it either), but anyways, if you have the correct phone and sim setup you will connect automatically to wifi extra, if you want to or not!
