Not being told an order wasn't being delivered

Has anyone else had this?

I ordered a new iPhone 6 Plus and paid more to have it delivered today before 10.30.

When I contacted O2 to find out why it hadn't I was told that they were out of stock and it would be delayed! I am sat at home having taken some time off and they didn't even have the courtesy to contact me to tell me.

Am I alone or is it commonplace? I think I might swap to another carrier and I have been a customer since it was BT Cellnet!

O2 are obviously quite happy witheir immoral stance and shady business ethics.

Many good businesses don't charge your card until your order is shipped. Sadly, O2 aren't the only one engaged in this practice of charging your card immediately. The biggest problem is the website saying that an item is in stock when it clearly isn't. It seems to be the most common complaint we see here.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Perhaps @Toby could shed some light on this process?
