... so I switch my laptop off at the on / off button ... & loose what I'd been typing
which must be one of the 1st things we were taught not to do when I did some word processing over 22 years ago

Is this on the PC where you are in the process of upgrading to Windows 10 @Anonymous? I thought you were having some issues with that as it hadn't worked properly...??

Also you should decide once and for all whether you will continue with the Win 10 install or roll back to Win 7. Having a mixture of both will not be helping the functionality of your laptop I am sure..:smileywink:
