I have been an O2 Pay monthly customer for 6 years , my average monthly spend across this period has been £50 a month. before taking out the monthly contract i was a PAYG customer for 3 years regularly updating my phone and topping up at least £20 a month.
I have had no problems with the service recieved, and the contracts offered have always been good value and provided me with a choice of handsets and options..... untill recently that is!
The reason i have now decided to leave O2 is because they are basically giving me no choice.
The contracts are no longer competative and the choice of handsets is currently by far the worst on the market. If you dont want a iPhone there is very little to chose from, and what is on offer is outdated.
My last contract expired in May, i enquired about the iphone but for what i wanted it was to expensive and decided against taking the contract but was willing to wait for new options to arrive and switched to the £20 simplicity to fill the gap in contracts and see what O2 would have done once the second quater came to and end.
What they did was nothing! There are very few new desirable handsets and nothing has been offered to me by O2 (basically i think their is little interest in holding onto customers who dont want an iphone or something similar). So basically i have only one option left move to orange or vodaphone and actually get some choice.
Im pretty dissapointed i dont really want to leave O2 but there is nothing on offer i want and no sign of this changing. 4 months down the line and the choice of handsets still hasnt changed.
Is anyone else finding the same thing when it comes to remewing thier contract??

I can't be bothered my HTC Touch Pro2 on Vodaphone is arriving early next week.
All I was asking for was an idea of when this handset would be available on O2 as I have been told from a few different sources that O2 do in fact have the handsets in stock but are not releasing them yet. The other comment made was that O2 did not want to impact on the sales of the iPhone.
I have ordered my phone I will let you know next week if I'm happy with it, so far I am happy with the deal I have on paper.

I am currently tossed between O2 and Vodafone. I am on PAYG but need data plan, as iPhone is very much web orientated. O2 has bolt-on for £10/month for PAYG, but reception is very bad to No Service where I work, Vodafone has better coverage, but their Flexi pack of £7.50/month is only for contract, not PAYG, which have to pay 50p/day for web access. I have moved my current number from T-Mobile to Vodafone because of the signal problem, so T-Mobile is also out of question. I had it twice now that school tried to contact me on my mobile, because of an accident and an illness of my son and I got that message 2 hours later as I was back in signal range and that in the Midlands. Hence I really need a 100% signal coverage, which so far only Vodafone supplies.

I feel like just because the iPhone is available, they've given up on offering other phones!
I really don't want an iPhone as I already have an iPod Touch which is effectively the same thing without the phone! I'd much rather have a completly new gadget to be excited about.
I've always been happy with O2 but like you said, I feel I have no choice but to move on.

I still haven't cancelled my contract yet. Nearly went for the Samsung jet but there were reports of a few glitches with the early phones so i am waiting (once again) for the next wave of phones in October (Nokia X6, samsung Omnia II, Nokia N97 Mini) so O2 have one final chance to redeem themselves and offer something i want, if not its goodbye.

Deals are (voda/o2):
Curve 8900 - free
1200 mins
Unltd txts (Voda) / 1000 txts (O2)
Unltd Voda calls / unltd O2 calls
Free internet, email etc
18month contract
I've checked on other forums and in August 09 there have been a lot of people reporting the same and leaving. I have to say O2 has provided good service, but it seems that this is not the time to be with them - the new offers on Vodafone and Orange are the same/better than the upgrades given by retentions at O2.
I imagine that in a few months senior management will realise how many people have left them and will then try and improve their retention policy.
For me after speaking to retentions twice, I have unfortunately requested my PAC. They can do nothing to keep customers! As a new customer of Voda I will get the same offer as from O2 with whom I have spent a few thousand pounds over the past few years. Good luck Telefonica O2... you'll need it!
I calculated, over the past 12 months I spent over £1680 - which is £140/month!
And over the last 18month contract I spent over £2822 - which is over £150/month!
I am sure that Vodafone will treat me better! It is certainly time to find those who value their good customers...

I have also been with o2 for years (10+) and each time I've come to the end of my contract they have (usually having talked to retentions 3 times) given me a deal I'm happy to stay for.
I've just had my 2nd call to retentions and have now been offered the following
Free Nokia 5800
400 mins
1000 texts
Unlimited Internet
free 02-02 for £25 on 18m contract
or
Samsung Galaxy i7500
200 mins
400 texts
Unlimited Internet
free 02-02 for £25 on 18m contract BUT the handset costs £165
or I leave 02 and switch to t-mobile for
free HTC hero
200 mins
200 texts
unlimited internet
for £25 on 18m
A big decision to make as I do really like o2 and have never had any issue with signal or customer services. I guess you get what you pay for but I'm tempted by the t-mobile deal.
When I told retentions about it they suggested that I go to CPW as they thought they may be able to do the Galaxy for less than the £165.
I'll let you know how it goes...
