Can someone please tell me what is going on with o2 coverage in Edinburgh??
About 2-3 weeks ago i started having problems sending and receiving texts - taking ages......then i was having problems accessing internet. Phonecalls started to disappear of go straight onto answer machine. I phoned to complain only to be told that they are working in the area on a mast - should be finished in the next 12 hours. Problem still ongoing 4 or 5 days, and then i got a text from o2 saying they were working on a mast in the area and that was putting more traffic onto the remaining masts - but it would finish on 4th November. Could not believe this!!!!!!!
Here we are a week later (12th November), and i am still having problems sending/receiving texts, problems with internet and now my phone is either not receiving calls - anyone phoning me it just goes onto answering machine most of the time OR i am in a middle of a call and it cuts out completely!!!!! Normally after 5mins and "GPRS" section on phone shows an "E" symbol instead - then it disappears when i try to phone that person back.....
I have a business to run here and the last 2-3 weeks have been an absolute nightmare for me!!!
Seriously thinking of leaving o2 after being a loyal customer for the last 10 years......
You can't be working on the same mast for the last 2-3 weeks!!!!
I have an I-Phone 5 incase that makes any difference....

I feel for you Steve. I'm in Durham, and my phone reception has gone bad in the last few weeks. This week (day 2) 6 inbound calls have not got through. Last week I started a call with 4 bars and an H symbol, and a couple of minutes in, it cut out and there was no signal, none at all.
The coverage map shows I should get good 3G inside and out. What a laugh. It's never been brilliant but I could always get a phone signal. Now it cuts in and out.
I've tried ringing my mobile from my land line, and it connects every time.
But my contacts now think im ignoring them.
I've tried Tugo but that is not great quality despite a good wifi signal and 39mbps down/8mbps up Internet.
I'd love to know why the signal varies so much, and why the coverage maps remain so wrong.

What did O2 say when you reported the poor signal?
Have you checked here for local mast problems?

I'm here because I'm trying to find how to report it.
That link shows nothing wrong here.
I've just found and run an app called My Network from o2, and that has a "tap for live status" button. This tells me they are experiencing high service demand at a mast in this area, which can cause intermittent service.
I wonder if it links to the students at the university who arrived for the new year mid October - has there been a special offer for them?

to the op o2 will be doing prep work for 4g in edinburgh and that may well impact on your issues http://www.o2.co.uk/4g

@fellwalker that is strange as the status page and mynetwork app uses the same database for its results

This morning, the coverage checker page shows the same info - high demand.

That usually means a mast is down and the traffic is being pushed to another one and this causes congestion in that area.
Once it's fixed the signal should return to normal.

To original your post makes a lot of sense with problems I have been having with people calling me. I am actually Vodafone now but my two friends are still o2. Whenever they call me the phone calls have been cutting out, to the point we have bene using landlines.
Not a big deal but we couldn't work out what the issue is - they are both O2 and we are all in Edinburgh. Doesn't happen with anyone else.
Maybe the 4G roll out is the issue though as it is meant to be here in December. Hope it improves for you shortly .
