Does anyone use HTML when composing or editing messages here?

@Toby @Chiara

I was wondering why the HTML facility available in the message box (other than that Lithium designed it that way).  I used to dabble in HTML years ago when I had a personal website (as part of my BT Broadband package, but they eventually withdrew that).  It is not the most user friendly language & I was surprised to see it still on offer in the Community.

When I use a quote in my replies I sometimes like to edit the quote to select just part of the message that I want to comment on.   But then it is hit or miss  as to whether my comment commences within the scope of the quote and hence will be affected by any formatting applied by HTML Tags .  It would be nice if:-

(a) there were a selective quote facility; and

(b) the end of a quote could be clearly delineated by a line so that lazy people like me know where to start inputting text that will not be affected by any preceding HTML tags.

It was rather simplified although it's essentially what it does. Although not all websites use this dynamic language. Web design is a bit of a hobby of mine.

Hi @anticpated Web design is a very addictive pastime, isn't it?   Many years ago I was responsible for designing and maintaining our Departmental Intraweb - but how it my job ended once the pages were uploaded to the server.  How it got to the server and from there to staff was a mystery to me.  The content (mainly provided by others) was a very reliable cure for insomnia, but I had great fun learning to use HTML coding (and inserting the odd little bit of nonsense that only a few staff "in the know" were able to detect.  Better stop before I get too far down memory lane.

Please, please can someone help me?   How can I add a selective quote and be CERTAIN that my reply will not appear in italics (like the quote) without my having to get into the HTML and add  </blockquote> tag.   It is most infuriating.  Heavens above a half sensible O level computer studies student could code a better app than this stone-age Lithium one.

When you reply and use quote you see a very faint line below the quoted text. Just make sure you type below it.

The line used to be a lot clearer but since the redesign it catches a few out......

I agree the line is less clear now. Thankfully, others are saying the same....so not just MY eyes then? wink

Thanks @jonsie   Unfortunately no such line displays on my PC screen (19" & 1920x1080 res) which is why I am having the problem.  Just another of Lithium's poor design features.   There really is no excuse for such poor software design nowadays (unless of course there is someone out there who can convince me otherwise!!)

No matter I will just have to get into the habit of previewing and adding the necessary tag if required before posting.

Have you tried adjusting the brightness and contrast of your screen Gerry?
