Discussions about O2 and age verification

Just received a text from TPTB saying I need to confirm I'm over 18 to view adult material. Until then, it'll remain blocked on my phone. I don't have a credit card so I'll need to do this in store. Just wondering, I have no particular desire to view pornographic material or register to flirt websites on my phone but if I don't have this ban lifted, will it affect my general day-to-day browsing in any way? Otherwise, I won't bother.
Secondly, when did this come about? Never needed to confirm my age in the past. And why couldn't they have sorted this in store when I bought the phone?

I just phoned customer services on 202 and insisted they clear this verification process for me, as I'm not prepared to do it via Bingo Bongo or via their faulty website.
Lady apologized over and over and quickly took details on a form. It'll be up to 48hrs then I can view Bet365 and Big Whoppers International without any further grief. I hope.
Voiced my displeasure, they're getting hundreds of calls.
One other thing. There are apps for betting sites such as betfair, and you can use these with no difficulty as they bypass the Internet. Might be worth checking which ones exist as it may be easier than browsing.

I have discovered after 5 hours of bouncing between our IT support company, O2 and Apple, that it appears our mail server address has been categorised as adult overnight meaning that none of our iphone users can get their company email on their iphones, nor can they access webmail on the iphones.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

This 'age verification' thing popped up on my phone for the first time yesterday.
As far as I am concerned the fact that I signed a 2 year contract and that 02 take money from me each month from my certified verified credit card should be enough.
I won't be paying any extra money for the privilege of going on any site via a third party site at that!
If 02 don't wish to resolve and to sneakily try and take money on the behest of 'age verification' , I for one will be looking elsewhere for a mobile phone provider.
P
This is supposed to be an 02 forum, but 02 aren't actually answering any queries! Why is that?
Maybe when customers start looking elsewhere, 02 may decide to acknowledge us.

I have no problem with O2 paying me £1.50 to use a web translation website, if the system actually worked. the verification service on the O2 website keeps failing - I put my number in & it either tells me it's not a valid phone number or says "Sorry we cannot send the verification message at the moment. Please try again later......"
So I rang the automated number, gave it my credit card details & that failed too.
I have no desire to (in my time & at cost to me) go into town to an o2 shop to queue for ages to get this resolved & I am not using some other webcompany to do it instead (whatever this bango thing is). i would rather trust O2 with my card details thank you.
has anyone managed to get the O2 verification to work today? Why could they not have warned people a week or two ago - I would be hammered if I suddenly implemented a new system without telling any of my customers.

I need to use Google Translate as an essential part of my work and now find that I am barred from so doing by a system of dubious legality.
Why would I give my credit card details, including the security code, to a site I have never heard of, despite the assurances on this forum of an O2 employee?
This unsolicited age verification requirement using 'bango.net' is a completely outrageous expectation of loyal O2 customers.
As a result of this, I and my many contacts are now seriously reviewing whether we should stay with this provider, or leave en masse.

I need to use Google Translate as an essential part of my work

I wouldn't, if the Spanish section of Google Translate is anything to go by :mansurprised:
If it's not an essential part then OK it's a passable tool that shouldn't necessarily be relied upon as giving an accurate translation.

Totally agree!
I've just used Google translate to change the above into Spanish and got this
Si no es una parte esencial y luego en Aceptar es una herramienta aceptable que no necesariamente debe confiarse en ella como dar una traducción exacta.

Translating back to English gives this grin
If it is an essential and then OK is an acceptable tool that does not necessarily be relied upon as accurate translation.

Exactly.....fine to order 2 beers and English breakfasts on holiday in Benidorm but do not use it if you're dealing with an important customer.
