Time to clean up or merge the numerous threads about the downtime.
I am sure I am not alone when I log in, that I feel like logging straight back out.

It did get into something of a pickle didn't it?
New threads started at random all over the place, I don't know how to stop that but maybe it can be tidied up now.
Perhaps a new section for "Network Issues" might be an idea?

This experience has made a total farce of the ranking system too.
A new member, with just three posts is on Level 3, by posting that he has no service and that O2 should do more. He receives 24 kudos and this clearly boosts his rank.
Leonard, this system needs a rethink, as well as a clean up.

We do this voluntarily to help out not for silly childish rankings. Sometimes progress just isn't!
Make everyone equal again no matter how many posts or kudos they have!

Indeed, we all remember the Sheepdog fiasco, when the overexcited moderator deleted his account, which could not be restored.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the feedback.
You're right perksie, you can't stop people posting all over the place (unless you just make 1 big board). One of the reasons we merged boards was so that the boards supported enough activity to make threads quickly move down to the 2nd page. As new threads keep appearing, that should happen with the downtime threads soon enough.
Jonsie, I'm also happy to rethink the ranking system, but I don't feel the outage is a very representable event for evaluating the model. Please also keep in mind that things weren't equal before and there were rankings in place. I just expanded on those.
I really agree we need to review what impact those changes have had, but we first need more data to evaluate, so please bear with me for a few more weeks.
Cheers,
Leonard

Sometimes Leonard, there is more to life than data. Sometimes, you just have to accept that others may have better ideas.
It seems to me that you have not consulted on progress, but merely decided.
Oh and you failed to address the tidying issue.

I totally agree there is more to life than data, but I think we should evaluate if the changes were effective or not based on data and stories. Therefore, these discussions are really important. However, there is a natural resistance to change, so I'd like to evaluate data as well.
We have extensively discussed the new rankings and based the calculation on years of experience with developing highly successful forums. Since the old ranking (e.g. newbie, regular newbie, trusted newbie, etc.) were just a condensed version of the current ranks, I guess you're talking about the superuser role.
I really understand your frustration with them being removed, as you've all done great work with the setup of this forum, have been longstanding members and really have great contributions. However, please understand that it's extremely hard to objectively decide who to make a superuser. Therefore, we have created a calculation model that looks at lifetime contributions and ranks members based on their helpfulness. This takes the subjectivity out of the equation. However, it only takes the contributions on Lithium into account, which (I agree) is a real downside.
Re tidying up: That's what I meant with threads moving to the page 2, 3, etc. You most likely won't see them again after this week, right?

No this means deletion of false posts false kudos and merging in to one thread.
