3G/4G v WiFi.

Just seen the piece on 5 News about the potential for personal info to be hacked using Public WiFi Hotspots and the recommendation where possible to use 3G/4G where possible.
I'd say some pretty good security advice there, but I only connect to public hotspots where I am unable to receive a decent data connection. Unfortunately, due to the places I frequent a decent connection speed is not always obtainable!
By the looks of it, it doesn't look to difficult for the "Wrong Uns" to set up a fake hotspot and access all your personal info?

Be careful when connecting to allegedly free hotspots.

It is true - any public wifi is not secure so shouldn't be used for anything like internet banking etc.

This is something that's been common knowledge for a very long time. Why is it in the news today? I suppose it can't hurt to jog people's memories and remind them, but why today?

It's Monday and maybe nothing else making the news after a quiet weekend...who knows....

Wi-Fi with good security should be a good enough deterent however people using specialist network snooping tools which intercept data packets or otherwise store information such as browsing history isn't as secure as say a home network.

4G is great if you can get it and 3G is pretty good when you're getting HDSPA or HSPA+ I dare suppose. Unless you live in a well populated area not out in the sticks, you will be lucked out for a good reliable signal.
