iPhone 5 is on EE but can be activated by using an O2 sim. How can be that?!

I have an iPhone 5 which is on EE and never unlocked. However when I try to insert an O2 sim, the phone can be activated! 

How can be that?! Does the phone unlocked or not? Confused...How to explain.....Help

I guess the phone is not network locked.

Hi.

It must be unlocked if an 02 sim is working fully in your iPhone that usually runs on ee.

I assume calls, texts and data connection all occur.

Either that or you have been very fortunate to get a factory unlocked iPhone from ee

Or you upgraded in an apple store and they have provided an unlocked version.

yes the phone can make call and send txt. can use data as well. and have ungraded from iOS6 to 7 yet without any issue.

The lock you speak about is unlocked to all networks. Ie accepts any SIM card.

Another lock is imei which is locking the iPhones serial number so no one can use it. This is done to phones lost or stolen.

Another lock on the iPhones are then4 digit pass lock to stop anyone else looking through your details.

Another is the activation lock which stops anyone taking your sim out and putting theirs in.
