iPhone 5 battery deteriorating

I've had my iPhone 5 since December 2012. Obviously the battery has never been brilliant as they aren't on iPhones but I used to be able to get a full days use out of it.

Over the last couple of weeks, the phone's battery life has seriously deteriorated. I can't get through an 8 hour shift at work without it running out. And that's with very limited use. What's even stranger is that the phone has lost battery even when it's telling me that there's still as much as 37% left.

I'm not using the phone any differently, I don't leave apps open and I've even resorted to turning off 3G until my breaks. Is this issue something that I need to take up with O2 or Apple? I wouldn't mind if I only had a couple of months left on my contract but I'll have to put up with this until mid-November!

Yep. The warranty for iPhones is 12 months.

Just out of interest, if Apple decide to replace the phone because it's faulty, how long would this process take/How long will I be without my phone? I only ask because I travel quite a bit and I usually need a decent phone with internet access with me. Cheers!


I needed to have my 4S replaced a couple of years ago.

 

Basically the issue I had meant the iPhone needed replaced. I walked into the Apple Store and walked out with my replacement in around 15 minutes.

 

Although I'm not certain, if it is just the battery that is at fault on your iPhone Dave, chances are they will just replace the battery. Whether the battery can be replaced in the Apple Store, then I am not sure if it can be, perhaps the other members can help more with this.

 

What I would advise Dave is, backup your iPhone before going to the Apple Store, just in case they do replace your iPhone. I wrote a video guide showing how to do this, the link to it is below slight_smile

After making a few changes after reading the battery saving tips, the phone still isn't performing great today. The only difference is that it still has battery life after an 8 hour shift. Only just though.

I'll back up the phone and make an appointment with Apple. I'm guessing I need to go to the Genius Bar? Thanks for all of your advice and pointing me in the right direction!

You guess right but do make an appointment or you could be turned away.

 

The battery will be pretty much done after that amount of months use to be fair.

Keeping in mind the fact that my warranty has ran out, do you expect that I might incur any costs to have the phone repaired or replaced? That is if they don't find an alternative solution obviously.

Yes on both unless you have Apple Care +.

Yeah I think its the best action if you are still having poor battery life. Just make sure you make an appointment beforehand though.

I would have expected the battery to last more than 14 months before it had issues though, from my experience with iPhone's, this defintely isn't normal for batteries to last this duration of time before having issues.

 

A friend of mine owns my old iPhone 4S which is over 2 years old, and he is still getting the battery life he has always got out of it.
