Massive data usage HELP PLEASE

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi

Was wondering if there are any solutions to this, I had an iphone 4 for two years on 1gb data per month, never ever went over my limit, I upgraded to an Iphone 5 in August and since then I have went quite considerably over my data which is costing me more and more to add bolt ons, my data usage hasn't changed since moving, just general browsing, no video being watched.

I have been on to O2 who advised me to go to apple, I went today and they reset my phone to the factory settings and told me to keep an eye on it, all my settings are turned off that would use data except mobile data, I browsed roughly for 5 mins today and my data used was 58mb.

I'm at pains to use any data now, what's the point in having an iphone if you cannot use it like an iphone is supposed to, does anybody have any solution to this problem?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Just a thought. I recently signed up to Dropbox and I didn't realise it would upload all of my pics etc. About 7gb later (all on wifi Thank God as that is how I set it up) I realised. Could it be something like that?

This might be a silly question but is your WiFi turned on?

If I didn't have wifi I would use between 10 and 15gb per month! !!!

I just wondered cos that may be your issue? ??

Ok but only let go for 2 days before checking and comparing it will be a bit out depending on the time you do a reset of the stats on the iphone.

Wierd thing happened today. Got a text yesterday evening to say I'd used 80% of my data allowance (which was only reset on the 8th of May; I've got 750MB per month). Follow on text this morning to say I'd used all my data allowance. Strange thing is that I've been at home all this time using wifi. Anyway, at 13:01, I bought a 1GB bolt on. At 13:53, I had another text to say I'd used 80% of my data. I had NOTHING running, hadn't even checked my email. How could I have used 800MB in 52 mins? I'm convinced something's up with the O2 data counters. I've been on the phone to customer services and literally hit a brick wall. they're convinced I've got some app running in the background that's chewing my data.

Anybody else encountered anything similar recently? I'm totally miffed and puzzled Help!

Hi and welcome to the Community

Two thoughts spring to mind. 1. Are you using TuGo at all and 2. Whilst I hear what you say in relation to wifi are you sure you were connected?

I ask about tugo as occasionally a call fails to disconnect and will continue to use data. That said I used 255mb in 18 hours. Yours seems much much more. sounds more like you were streaming over the gsm network instead of over wifi
