Activating iphone 5C

Anonymous
Not applicable

Help - please. I've just got my first iphone and I cannot activate the thing.  From looking on here it appears - which I wasn't told - that I can't activate using mobile.  Would have been helpful to know as I don't have wi-fi where I am now. Not to be defeated I purchased a day pass to BT Wi-fi as I'm in a hot spot. No joy, the phone doesn't recognise the network. The message mentions on the phone mentions signing in via iTunes.  I have downloaded iTunes onto my laptop and set up my password - but how do I activate via that? Or is that only if you have upgraded from an existing iPhone? Seriously thinking of going back to 2 cans and a piece of string here. Any help fur this - feels like - luddite will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

As MI5 says your sim has to be activated.

As you have done download the latest version of iTunes, create an Apple i.d, and hook it up.

Or once you have service from the activated sim card do this through the iphone.

Enjoy your new toy !

Is your SIM card activated first?

Thanks all. My sim was put in at Carphone WH and my O2 account shows me on the new tariff.  My old sim no longer works.  I was under the impression I didn't have to do anything else about activating the sim? Would this be correct?

Unfortunately I tried the activation guide for new/existing customers but it hasn't helped me on this occasion.

Have you tried by hooking up to iTunes on an internet enabled pc/mac ?

Also it can take from a few hours to approx 24 hours for your new sim to fully activate.

If your worried phone o2 on 202 from a working mobile or From a landline 0844 809 0202 5p / min to check your account.

It would appear you need to wait a while longer for your new SIM to fully activate.....

Thanks again. I upgraded last Friday so I think it's had long enough. I'll carry on having a go!

Evening.

Chances are you need to update the carrier settings on the iPhone before it can use your network connection to activate it.

Either get someone to let you hitch a ride on a personal hotspot or connect it to iTunes on a computer with an internet connection.
