Unlocking a Galaxy S8

Hi, I spoke with a customer service rep on the phone earlier and they have agreed to unlock my phone, but I've only just now realised that I never gave them my phones IMEI number.

Will this be an issue?

For further information, I have had this phone for over 12-months on  a Pay-Monthly plan, however, I did get that plan through Carphone Warehouse and not O2 directly.

Hi @Tys

If you bought from CPW, their phones are sold unlocked. So you should just try another sim in yours and should be ok.

Should your be locked for some strange reason, then this is the guide to do it

https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/How-to-Guides/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-SIM-card/ba-p/1...

You wont need it though wink

Is that the case even if I got the phone in August of last year? I was under the impression that this only applied to phones CPW sold from Jan 2019 onwards?

CPW never lock any phones at all now.
The date you mentioned refers to iPhones only.

Ahh, so, just to confirm, the Galaxy S8 I got in August 2018 should already be unlocked?

Yes, as I said above...It was only iPhones CPW sold, that used to be locked.

I had  a Note 3 from there years back and it was unlocked to any network

Thanks for the help. I'll try and get a new sim tonight after work and try it out.
