No one from O2 will contact you and frankly, it would be pointless anyway.
LG phones need to be unlocked via a cable and software at a phone repair shop as they virtually never unlock from a code.
Take it to your local repair shop in town and save yourself the grief.

Pff... then what's with:
"As an O2 customer, your O2 device can be unlocked at any time."
This means something more like:
As an O2 customer we don't give a toss about you so go to the corner shop and pay some random dude to get this done for ya.

Just an update, O2 escalated to LG, perhaps they get me a working code.
In the meantime in went to check who could unlock the phone with cable and software, as per MI5's suggestion. None of the repair places in town had a clue on how to go about that.
