Unknown data charges

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have recently switched to a samsung y phone from previously having a basic nokia.  I have a sim only contract with no data allowance and so I do not want to use any of the internet features.  I have switched off wi-fi, bluetooth, GPS and do not use any of the aps, maps or internet.  Still i am being charged on a daily basis for data usage.  What is this phone doing that i dont know about?  What else can I switch off.  I seem to have been charged at least £1 for every day i have this phone.  I only want to make phone calls and send texts, nothing else.

Thanks.  Looks like theres a few things i need to switch off within that settings menu.  Packet data, data roaming, samsung apps updates, background data and auto sync data.  This phone only came with a quick start guide and doesnt go into any of these details so thanks for help.

Go into Settings and switch off (untick) Mobile Data. The apps you have on the phone are updating in the background. If you switch off Mobile Data that will stop. If you want to update your apps you can do it over your home WiFi connection, which you can use for free.

If you're unsure where to look to switch off your Mobile Data, take a look in your user guide.

This is an Android phone that is designed to use the internet, there will be apps built in that need to update from time to time.

That is what this phone was made to do, as Bambino says you can turn data off and it will stop, but so will many of the functions.

You can leave wifi on and connect to any wifi router as this is all free.
Maybe you have wifi at home you can use and also in places like McDonalds, Debenhams and any other places you see an "O2 WiFi" symbol.

Or if your home broadband is with BT you can connect to any of BT's free WiFi hotspots.

You can probably find a more thorough user guide online if you Google it.

Turning off packet data will stop it all.
