Trick is you need to remember to turn OFF iMessage and Facetime before you switch phones, a bit daft I know!

Did you used to have an iPhone?
The people sending you texts, their devices may still think you have an iPhone so sending as an iMessage.
Ask them to goto Settings > Messages and make sure "Send as SMS" is turned on.
This means if after a while the message doesn't deliver as an iMessage you will get it as a text.
(Even if you never had an iPhone, worth telling them to turn on the above)

Apple have confirmed the recent iOS 7 update messed around with iMessage.
Hopefully the patch due out soon resolves this.

I just changed from an iphone to Sony Xperia Z1 and yes anyone who upgraded their software to IOS 7 has had their Imessaging default changed so that it doesn't send an SMS when it doesn't work.
I asked people to change their settings but also went into my icloud and my apple support and deleted my old iphone. That may not help at all but a few forums had suggested it as it seems iphones arent communicating with a number but in face a phone - so I delted the record of the phone!
