Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean Bugs & Fixes

Anonymous
Not applicable

HI,

I have already noticed a few bugs with Jelly Bean on my Galaxy SIII and thought it might be useful to start a list of these bugs & hopefully come up with some solutions?

  • Low Battery life - attempting a calibration soon, hopefully this will resolve the problem but i suspect it is caused by GPS usage & data usage from google now
  • No ability to set reminder via google now -"Remind me to XXXXXX in ten minutes" results in setting an alarm for midnight?
  • Sky Go app is no longer compatible
  • Pausing music via voice only works if done in an american accent (even though everything is set to UK)
  • Sometimes, selecting a part of text by sliding your finger to the relevant place results in closing the keyboard meaning you can only select part of text with "press"
  • "Google Now" hangs on "Initialising" sometimes when out of WIFI

Thanks

Great, if i get a chance to try before you I will let you know (no point in both of us doing a reset) One thing M15 suggested was if restoring, do not restore preferences.

I'm having problems with the following:

  1. messages - when a new text message comes up, as i go to reply i manage to type a few words before the phone exits back to the home screen - this keeps happening around 5-6 times and then stops!!
  2. the memory usage is very high around 750/830mb on average
  3. there is a screen refresh lag of 3-4 seconds when ive been viewing multiple webpages on the stock browser.
  4. when a call comes in teh pervious calls details are displayed for a few seconds (their name and picture, but number is that of person calling) before it switches to the current caller
  5. can't switch off car mode sometimes
  6. I get the option to pick up a call by saying answer or reject but it doesnt actually work!!

very very annoying that such errors come up...i dont like Apple but i'm sure the iPhone doesnt contend with such errors - actually they get fundamental errors like holding the phonr to your ear and losing the mobile signal, maps giving you worng directions and details - why do ppl stick with them! however i dont expect such stupid errors from google, the above are annoying none the less.

@TML.
I had the same problem but an easy fix. Make sure vibrations and sound is on under settings.
Then go to your home screen, messages (do not click on a thread ), menu, Settings and tick the box which says show icon and Sounds when msgs receive.

Hi, I might be over simplyfying this but there is an option under settings > developer options > show screen updates. This isn't ticked by chance is it? if so, turn it off

Hi could anybody shed some light on this..
My battery status is really poor now. With ICS I could easily get 12-15 heard use, now with JB my battery went from 100 - 10% in 6 hrs, with the phone just being in my pocket.

Cheers

Hi, I had the same problem but it looks like the fix is to hard reset the phone to stock firmware then update jellybean from there. Apparently it solves all these issues.

I haven't tested the theory yet but hoping to do it tonight slight_smile

I was having battery life problems, this option (Factory reset) worked for me.

hi all, I havemanaged to sort out the message problem. spoke to samsung who advised a factory reset as some files can remain when updating. this has worked. with regards to battery life, I disable installed apps that I don't use which helps and force stop others on start up that I do not require to be running. I can then get 2 days from my battery when not surfing or playing games. hope this helps
