When I send SMS in Japanese, the receiver has garbled characters, like ????. According to some information on the web, it does not seem the problem of the device. Does O2 support sending Japanese text? Or, should I do something on my device before texting in Japanese? Please help.

Looking at the S3mini manual page 106 it would seem you have to select the Japanese language in settings for text input.
Another way round it, never tried this but Google have an online translation service that you could possibly get to work by typing the message and pasting it after translation
If I get chance will have a play with the phone later
