New HTC One X+ - apps not detecting location

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have a brand new HTC One X+ - great phone, but none of the apps are detecting my location; the weather app, the train timetable app etc, which on my previous HTC Desire automatically detected location and acted accordingly, all of them think I'm still at home when I'm elsewhere. Google Maps detects my location, but only if I force it to by selecting the 'my location' option, it doesn't auto-detect.

I'm not using GPS, just relying on the O2 mobile signal, which has always been good enough on my old phone.

I've tried all the location settings on the phone that I can find - so is there something in the phone settings I've missed, or is it a SIM card issue, or something else? Anyone with any experience of this or ideas?

thanks.

It won't be an app with a screen icon as it is just a setting app so will only be visible in Settings > Applications >All. I'm sure its just called HTC Location Services or it may be part of the clock widget settings.... It's been a while since I used an HTC.... Failing that, clear the data from any location services you can find and reboot. Something seems to be blocking you from the location server.....

I'm assuming your data connection is working OK, ie you can get on to internet etc....? If so go into Settings, applications and find HTC location services. Open this and clear data from it. Then restart the phone. HTC use their own server which can sometimes conflict with Google's. Has this just started happening or has it been always like it?

It's been like it since first use - can I just check though, there isn't an application sepcifically called 'HTC location services' - there is a Location app, and a Network Location app, but they appear to be Google/Android applications, not HTC

That seems to have done the trick for now - it has at least detected my current location. I'll have to wait until going home later today to see if it detects the change of location - but many thanks for your help MI5, much appreciated!
