Hi.  I have a HTC Sensation XE and was wondering whether O2 have any plans on releasing the Jellybean update for it and whether it will be OTA?

The best way of getting an answer to this question is to chat with a Guru.

I spoke to a Guru yesterday and they said they couldn't give me any more information other than the update will be available in 1 to 2 weeks.

From your other similar post it seems you had asked about the SGS3. The OP of this thread was asking about the HTC Sensation XE.

You will not get a specific answer from o2 or a guru.  Read this for my enquiry regarding ics for the Xperia S:  http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Android-Devices-Samsung-HTC-Sony/Sony-Xperia-s-No-ics-yet-JB-I-m-not-ho...

p.s.  Sometimes the upgrade makes things worse, not better.

@andersonland

I've never heard of an Android update hitting users hard in terms of performance. I know it sounds daft and if you follow a typical update-release cycle then it should impact users negatively, but I have upgraded three different Android devices across three different upgrade trees - and none of them have seen a drop in performance.

I don't know how Google write their update candidates. I think they must work some kind of black magic...

@Robin4Life

I think some operators are going the way of letting manufacturers decide when to release platform updates. The past two handsets I have had (both Motorola, so could be due to Motorola themselves..) have had no bearing on my network. The manufacturer released Android 4.0.4 for my device, I either upgraded from their website directly or in the case of my new Razr, OTA.

That said, if a manufacturer does want to brand an update or lock it down before it gets pushed to the end user, they will have to wait for the manufacturer to release it first (naturally). I have dug up this information concerning HTC and Jelly Bean for you.

"UPDATE 2 October: The Jelly Bean update for HTC One X and HTC One S is official and will begin rolling out over October and November 2012 along with an update to the UI to bring both handsets up to HTC Sense 4+. The HTC One XL will also receive Sense 4+ but already comes with Jelly Bean out of the box. More details on the update here. More details on what HTC Sense 4+ entails here."

It seems HTC is rolling out Jelly Bean, and a fortnight ago began rolling it out for the newer HTC devices. I would say if your device is confirmed to be having Jelly Bean (that first page I linked to doesn't mention it at all..) you would be seeing Jelly Bean on the Sensation XE around Q4 2012. You could of course get it earlier than that, if you head over to XDA.. wink
