Galaxy S2 4.1.2 new O2 update

Anonymous
Not applicable

Did anyone else receive this new OTA update this morning.  I flashed my P variant phone with the standard O2 jelly bean firmware using Odin, but today received an OTA update.  Anyone know what the new features/improvements are?

Build: JZ054K.I9100XWLSW

Baseband: I9100XXMS2

Still 4.1.2

Seamless - 26mb download which I did OTA via O2's wifi whilst I was at work.

Not sure what the update brings to the SGS2 but any update is a good one at this stage in the phones life!

Updated to this a couple of days ago OTA, cant see any difference to the version of JB I was already running, apart from the fact I know have massive battery drain overnight. Full charge at say midnight, I go to sleep, wake up at say 7AM, and Im down to 75% battery left. No apps running overnight that I can see, setttings reports as Android OS using some 60% odd of the battery.
Any ideas anyone?

I would flash back to the version of JB I had, but I cant find it anywhere 😞

An undocumented feature of this JB update is that if your phone was previously network locked,  it's gonna be network locked again after the update.  I ran the OTA update when prompted yesterday and now phone wants the network unlock code again.  I still had my old code from last year,  but it does not work.

Some research into the matter suggests it now needs a Master Unlock Code.  O2 are not being helpful right now,  they just told me the manufacturer says it's already unlocked ....

Hi,

If your S2 is unlocked then you can do this using Odin and the firmware packages from SamMobile.  Depending on whether you have the S2 or S2(P) model you can have a look and download recent and older flavours.

I'm using the latest XWLSW for the S2 on my P model (so no NFC) and it works fine.  But I have read in a few places that after an upgrade ideally you should perform a backup and then a full wipe so that the software builds itself from scratch.  If you moved from 4.0.3/4 ICS to JB then I'd recommend this just in case.  With a clean phone you can then install apps manually rather than have them upgraded on the fly.

Lppks like it finally has arrived for the P variant.

I had downloaded and installed the Jellybean update for Slovenia that worked fine with NFC enabled. I will try the O2 version but if I am unable to remove O2's bloatware I will go back to the Slovenia version, at least all their add-ons are removable.

Wow, interesting stuff.  I've just taken a look at SamMobile too and can see the O2 branded release is available for download (handy for anyone wishing to do it manually).

Personally I'm going to wait.  It's good that the release is based on LSS so I could step back from the normal S2 running LSW but I don't want any O2 bloatware.  I'm hoping that the vanilla version will be released soon and will try that.  If LSS great, LSW or higher then even better.  I don't use NFC so quite happy to stick with LSW for the non-P.

Progress though! slight_smile
