Network Rejection Cause- phone not allowed MM#6

Purchased a refurbished sony xperia from O2 online shop. Put an an O2 pay as you go SIM Card into it and Im getting Network Rejection Cause- phone not allowed MM#6 , as if its locked to another network. Can anybody help?
