Your direct debit goes out 2 weeks after a bill has been generated normally. The time of day it goes out varies from bank to bank but is usually overnight. Santander for example update anytime between 9 and midnight. Natwest usually update at 2am. Lloyds update at various times of day depending on the type of transaction. Just to give a few examples

Which bank is it. A lot offer a grace period where if you pay money in by 3pm (varies from bank to bank) to cover a direct debit it will still clear
