Good morning.

A few days ago I took out a completely new contract, with a new device. I’ve put the sim in this morning to set it up and it’s not working.

It has o2 as the carrier and has full signal. But can’t make calls, receive texts etc. I’m wondering what’s going on, if I put my other sim in the phone it works fine. I thought as a brand new contract it would work instantly. Tried calling o2 phone lines aren’t taking calls.

Hello Rachelle, I believe you may have a faulty sim card. The quickest solution would be to pop back into store and ask them to perform a sim swap, this should solve the problem.

Please remember to take I. D (driving licence or passport) direct debit information and they will also ask you for your security answer.

Hope this helps.

I don’t think it’s the SIM card because I took two contracts out. For myself and my partner and I’ve just tried setting his up, and his isn’t working either.

I’m a shielding person so I can’t go into store. And the phone lines aren’t taking calls unless it’s about leaving or an upgrade even if you’re shielding.

Sounds like the phone you received may be faulty or barred as the sim works in another phone fine.

You need to call o2 to check the new phone for bars etc or to organise a replacement.

If these are the phone(s) you were referring to on your other post about buying a 2nd hand phone then it sounds like they phones you have bought are IMEI barred phones which means they are most probably lost/stolen phones.

O2 can check how there were barred by giving them the IMEI of the phones.

@Rachelle87

The other way if you cant get through to o2, is to use Checkmend (it does cost £1.99 per device) but will tell you instantly if the phone is blocked.

You will need the IMEI number, which can be obtained by going to the dialler and typing *#06#
